How to Calculate Semester GPA Step by Step

  1. Select your grading system (TU, KU, PU, Purbanchal, or NEB).
  2. Add all semester subjects and their credit hours.
  3. Enter the correct grade for each subject.
  4. Multiply grade point by credit hours for each subject.
  5. Divide total quality points by total credits.
Semester GPA = Σ(Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ(Credit Hours)

Worked Example

Suppose you have four subjects with credits 3, 3, 4, and 2. If your grade points are 3.7, 3.3, 3.0, and 4.0, then quality points are 11.1, 9.9, 12.0, and 8.0. Total quality points = 41.0 and total credits = 12. Your semester GPA is 41.0 ÷ 12 = 3.42.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using wrong credit hours from memory instead of your official transcript.
  • Averaging grades directly without credit weighting.
  • Mixing grading scales between universities or batches.
  • Ignoring failed (F) or NG courses that carry 0.0 grade points.
